Our names are Sabrina, Samantha, and Sarah, and we are senior research students at the University of Mary Washington. We are inviting you to participate in our research study which is being sponsored by Dr. Erchull and Dr. Liss of the psychology department. Participation in this study is completely voluntary.
The purpose of the study is to learn about college students’ and newly married or engaged individuals’ ideal versus actual expectations regarding work, marriage, children, and division of household labor. We are interested in the expectations of individuals who do not have children.
If you choose to participate, you will complete an online questionnaire. This will take approximately 30-45 minutes. Although you will need to provide us with a valid email address, all of your responses will remain anonymous. Please do not add any extra personal information that is not asked for, as this could hinder the anonymity of your responses. You do not have to answer any question that makes you feel uncomfortable, and you may end the survey at anytime.
The benefits of this study include an increased knowledge of what individuals without children expect for their future plans. We do not anticipate that you will encounter any negative consequences as a result of your participation in this study.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact Sabrina Askari at saska3zk@umw.edu.
This study has been approved by the institutional review board of the University of Mary Washington. Questions or concerns can also be addressed to my faculty advisors (Dr. Mindy Erchull: merchull@umw.edu or Dr. Miriam Liss: mliss@umw.edu) as well as the chair of the institutional review board (Dr. Christine McBride: cmcbride@umw.edu).
If you wish to continue with the study, you will be sent to a screen where you will be asked to provide your name as well as a valid email address. Neither your name nor your email address will be linked to your data in any way. However, if you feel more comfortable doing so, you may leave the name fields blank. You must, however, provide a valid email address that you can access immediately to receive your unique link to the survey. You can only use your email address once.
By clicking the link to continue, you are stating that you are at least 18 years old (or have a parental consent form on file in the UMW psychology office) and agree to participate in the study.
